The 2013 Jetta is an affordable car with sleek European styling, a roomy interior and lots of storage space. A few of the trim levels have been updated for 2013. The SE trim will come with sweet extras such as adjustable seats, a steering wheel appointed in leather and upgraded dashboard materials. Volkswagen also added a new trim level, SEL which comes equipped with a top of the line audio system in addition to a navigation system.
Interior space for the Jetta is comfortable and ranks among the most spacious in its class. Cargo space is ample at 15.5 cubic feet which is larger than that of the Honda Accord. Safety features for the Jetta include an air bag system, electronic stability control and traction control. The Jetta scored a mark of “Good” on frontal, side, rear and roof strength crash tests performed by the IIHS.
A hybrid version of the Jetta will also be available towards the end of 2012. Hybrids are generally expected to be a bit slower than traditional vehicles. However, the Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid hit a new record at the Bonneville Salt Flats by reaching maximum speeds of 267 miles per hour; that is faster than any other hybrid car till date. Models available in showrooms will not be able to reach these speeds; the engine of this particular model was modified for racing purposes.
Let’s take a look at the engine specs for the Jetta hybrid version. A 1.4 Liter engine offers an output of 150 hp and 184 lb feet of torque. An additional 27 hp boost is provided thanks to an electric motor. Buyers also have option of buying an efficient Diesel version with an estimated mileage of 30 mpg in the city and 42 mpg on the freeway.
It takes less than nine seconds for the Jetta hybrid to reach speeds of 60 mph starting at zero. Engineers designed the ion battery to automatically disengage in case of an accident in order to prevent fire. All models come with Bluetooth capabilities which will allow the driver to place and receive phone calls while keeping hands on the steering wheel.
2013 Jetta hybrid models are expected to hit Volkswagen dealerships such as Volkswagen Los Angeles towards the end of 2012. The Jetta would be a great choice for anyone looking for an affordable compact car with European styling. Pricing is expected to start at around $25,000.
