Toys
are an inevitable part of a kid's childhood, but some are more technologically
advanced than others. If your children have a keen interest in technology – as
many do in this day and age – there are a vast array of things to choose from
to keep their minds and bodies active.
Here are just a few ideas of ways to keep your kids entertained as they grow up:
Games
Consoles
It used to be quite uncommon for children to have their very own games consoles, but now it's rare to find a home without one. There are several to choose from, depending on your kids' needs. The Nintendo Wii is the most family friendly, and has many games you can all play together, making for a great afternoon of fun together. A Sony PlayStation 3 is a great choice if you all love to watch movies together, as it has Blu-Ray playing capabilities, so you can watch movies in high-definition.
Hand-Held Games Consoles
Hand-held games consoles such as the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP offer a unique, portable gaming experience, which can be a life saver for parents when taking their kids out with them! If you're taking a long journey by car, or are going somewhere where your child will have to sit for a long period of time (such as a restaurant or waiting room), you can keep them entertained and out of trouble for hours with a hand-held console. As a bonus, there are many educational games to choose from!
Musical Instruments
There are children's toy versions of most musical instruments, and picking one of them up for your child who seems to have taken a keen interest in music can be a great start for any budding musician. They're cheaper than regular instruments, and can be a useful way to figure out if your child would benefit from having the real thing when they're older. Just make sure to soundproof your rooms first!
Electronic Pets
An electronic pet is a great way to teach your kid some responsibility, while keeping them entertained and giving them something to love at the same time. Furbies and Tamagotchis are great examples of electronic pets that kids have to feed and nurture for them to survive. They can be a great tester for if your child wants a real pet too! You can teach your child that if they can't look after an electronic pet, how can they expect to look after a real animal, which requires much more time and care? A valuable lesson can be learned from electronic pets.
Lego Technic
Lego Technic is more advanced technology than regular Lego: it includes motors, batteries and moving parts, and for this reason is a lot more intricate. Your kid can have hours of fun constructing something out of Lego Technic, and then feel a huge sense of accomplishment when their completed toy moves using a remote control! These toys are great for kids with an interest in mechanics and the way things work.
