The
American muscle car is a tradition - dating back to the hey day of the original
Mustangs and Chargers. With so many iterations over the years and regular
updates to what has become a classic line up of cars, it's always fun to take a
moment and look at what is available, what has changed and what surprises the
big three have for us in the years to come.
These are some of the brightest and best muscle cars released by American car companies for the 2013 lineup and why you should be excited about each of them.

2013 Mustang
GT
One
of the granddaddies of the American muscle car movement is the Ford Mustang.
Stylish, cool and always powerful, the Mustang has evolved a lot over the
years, but recent iterations of the vehicle - including the 2013 Shelby GT500 -
have really pushed the limits of what Ford is doing.
The Shelby carries the honor of two classic names and lives up to them both in almost every way. With a whopping 650 horsepower and a six speed manual transmission, the GT500 is fast...very fast. It also comes with adaptive suspension, which is highly recommended considering how much juice is pumping through that engine.

Dodge Charger
SRT-8
The
Mustang and Camaro are big and bold and almost look like other cars on the street,
so you can surprise the heck out of the teenagers next to you in their early
90's model Mustang. But if you need a car with a bit more space and the same
raw power and muscle car attitude, the Charger SRT-8 may be a better option.
With four doors, the SRT-8 is more practical in many senses, but doesn't skimp on power, packing a 6.4 liter HEMI V-8 with 470 horsepower under the hood.

Camaro ZL1
Finally,
there is the Camaro ZL1 convertible. The muscle car cousin of the Corvette,
the Camaro has long been a showcase for what Chevy is working on. While the new
ZL1 is more or less the same look and shape as the coupe of the same line, it
has a handful of very big, very important changes under the hood.
To start, the ZL1 has a supercharged V8 with 580 horsepower and a six speed manual transmission. So it is fast and a LOT of fun to drive. It also has a handful of important changes that make it a smoother ride than a standard Camaro with a bigger engine would be.
The 2013 lineup of muscle cars has some classic names with modern power and technology ensuring exceptional performance. Yes, these things are getting mighty close to super car status, but I don't think anyone who owns one is too broken up about it.
