The Rolls-Royce is an
iconic Car and Brand original created from the UK with a well-documented
history for the legendary lineage of cars. This article talks about the Phantom
from the very first model to the modern Rolls Royce Phantom we see today.
The Phantom 1
The first Rolls-Royce
the Phantom 1 was a replacement for the Rolls Royce silver Ghost. The model ran
from 1925 – 1931 a
7.7 Litre
powerful engine manufactured both in the UK and the US with only a total of
3512 versions ever created. If you wanted to purchase a Rolls Royce Phantom 1
today it would cost around $200,000.
The Phantom 2
In 1929 the model was
upgraded and the release of the Rolls-Royce the Phantom 2, this range has a few
changes such as assisted brakes and a four speed transmission. There were 1402
original models created with a further 278 continental versions and even a
small collection adapted for left hand drive. (British created cars traditional
are created with right hand drive.)
The Phantom 3
The Phantom 2 was
manufactured until 1936 when a third version was produced the Rolls Royce
Phantom 3. This was the last of the pre Second World War vehicle created. The
technological enhancements added an all-aluminium V12 engine and independent
front suspension. Only 727 Phantom 3’s were ever produced.
If you wanted to
purchase a Phantom 3 today you could look at spending anything from $200,000 to
$900,000.
Exclusively
for Royalty the Phantom 4
The forth in the range
the Rolls Royce Phantom 4 was created especially for Royalty and Heads of
State. The first ever was delivered to Princess Elizabeth one of only 18 ever
produced between 1950 to 1956.
The Phantom 5
There was a three year
break before production started again on the Phantom 5, only 516 being ever
produced the most memorable of these being painted Psychedelic for the famous
Jon Lennon. One thing is apparent when it comes to Rolls Royce cars it
was heavily based on exclusivity.
The Phantom 6
The Phantom 5 was
manufactured until 1968 when the Phantom 6 was produced the first Phantom to
feature rear hinged doors and the last Phantom to ever be produced using a
separate chassis. 374 cars were ever produced until 1991.
The Phantom 7
Then in 1998 the British
Luxury Car Company was acquired by German Car Manufacturer BMW for £340m this
led to the modern Rolls Phantom 7 we see today. It’s not officially a Phantom 7
but is often considered as this for its Rear Hinged Doors and is instantly
recognisable as a Rolls Royce, similar to its historic predecessors. It’s
reported that BMW have set a ceiling for only 10,000 of the Phantom 7s to be
created, far more than its historic brothers.
The Phantom 8
In 2012 Rolls Royce set
themselves a target of making the best cars in the world the results was the
Modern Phantom 2 or Phantom 8 they also continued to develop other models such
as the Rolls Royce Ghost and the Ghost Extended.
It’s fair to say that
for nearly hundred years Rolls Royce have created astonishing cars known for
luxury; it will be really interesting to know what happens with the next 100
years.
