How Technology is Changing the Motoring Industry

A little under 72.5 million automobiles are expected to be sold by the end of 2015. The global automotive industry is alive and well and is being fueled by the increased demand for vehicles in the Asian and North American markets according to Statista, the statistics portal.

With increased consumer interest and the development of technology comes a new wave of ‘smart’ cars. For example, it is forecast that by the year 2020, cars will be able to apply the brakes no matter what the driver is doing. This will be due to the rapid increase in sensor technology which will ultimately give the vehicle the final say on passenger safety and not the actual driver.

Technology has completely changed the way in which we live and the automotive industry has adapted to this. In addition to these driver override systems, additional developments forecast to be in place by 2020 include autonomous cars that will be available to the general public. Google for example is in the midst of testing a driverless car that has no steering wheels or pedals.

Other developments that will shape the face of the motoring industry include comprehensive vehicle tracking, biometric vehicle access, active window displays and even remote vehicle shutdown. To learn more about the future of the motoring industry and where it is going, have a look at this infographic on ‘The Future of Driving’, provided by C R Allen & Sons.
