Michigan is among several states and regions vying for leadership in the emerging field of self-driving cars and autonomous vehicle technology
Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder picked the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn as the backdrop to sign a group of bills today designed to position Michigan as a future leader in development and testing of self-driving cars.
"Eventually, what we are doing here today will be part of this (history), if you think about it," said Snyder, who was flanked by a Ford Model T and a Ford Fusion hybrid that is equipped with liDar and other self-driving car systems.
"This piece of legislation went through with only two no votes … which is not the norm for what we are going through today," Snyder said. "This is a framework for long-term success."
