Uber's first ever diversity report is actually better than expected



Uber's first diversity report: staff is 36.1% female worldwide with 15.4% female engineers; in US, 49.8% white, 30.9% Asian, 8.8% black, 5.6% Hispanic overall



Last week we laid out the three things we must improve to make Uber a truly great company: leadership and accountability; our relationship with drivers; and our culture and organization.

While there are many things we need to change about our culture, I believe that making Uber a more diverse and inclusive workplace is key. Today, as a first step towards this goal, we’re publishing our diversity numbers. This report is a clear-eyed assessment of where we stand and our plans to improve going forward.

It’s no secret that we’re late to release these numbers. And I’d like to thank our employees for their tenacity in arguing the case for greater transparency—because what you don’t measure, you can’t improve.
