March 11 Events Highlight NASA's Moon to Mars Plans at NASA Goddard



NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland invites media on Monday, March 11, to get an up-close look at Moon to Mars related work taking place at the center. The event takes place between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. EDT and highlights Goddard science, engineering and exploration of the Moon and Mars.

NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine will address the agency's workforce at 1 p.m. EDT from NASA's Kennedy Space Flight Center in Florida. His remarks will air live on NASA Television and the agency's website.

In addition to viewing the NASA Administrator's address, participants will attend an overview of Goddard missions and its support to the Moon to Mars mission.

Attendees will learn about: the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO); how NASA is studying the potential hazards that astronauts may face from emissions from the Sun and other space weather; the latest in space communications and navigation; tour the Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) testbed laboratory. SAM is an instrument aboard the Mars Curiosity rover; hear about the science legacy of the Apollo missions; and other topics.

U.S. media interested in attending the Goddard event must submit an accreditation request online by noon Friday, March 7, nancy.n.jones@nasa.gov.

NASA is going to the Moon and on to Mars, in a measured, sustainable way. The direction from Space Policy Directive-1 builds on the hard work NASA is doing on its SLS and Orion spacecraft, agency efforts to enable commercial partners, its work with international partners at the International Space Station in low-Earth orbit, and what NASA learns from its current robotic missions at the Moon and Mars.
