WeRide Expands Fully Driverless Robotaxi Operations in Beijing with GXR
WeRide, a global pioneer in autonomous driving technology, has secured approval to deploy its latest-generation Robotaxi, the GXR, for fully unmanned paid ride-hailing services in Beijing. This milestone marks the company's second Robotaxi model to achieve full driverless commercial operation in the city, while also being GXR’s first large-scale commercial deployment in China, following its debut on the Uber platform in Abu Dhabi last December.
Expanding Reach and Accessibility
The service area includes strategic locations within the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, covering major transportation hubs such as high-speed railway stations. Additionally, GXR is authorized for commercial operations on highways, including routes to and from Beijing Daxing International Airport.WeRide has achieved rapid progress in just four months since officially launching GXR, reinforcing its ability to scale autonomous driving technology efficiently and effectively.

GXR represents over five years of WeRide’s innovation in the Robotaxi field. It features cutting-edge L4-level redundant drive-by-wire chassis architecture, an open and spacious passenger cabin, and a world-first hidden B-pillar design. Designed to accommodate up to five passengers, GXR provides the most accessible entry and exit space, enhanced seating comfort, and the largest luggage storage capacity in the Robotaxi industry. Riders can access GXR through the WeRide Go app, available on major mobile platforms.
Global Expansion and Future Plans
As the only autonomous driving technology company operating commercial Robotaxi services both in China and internationally, WeRide has launched services in multiple cities, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Ordos, Suzhou, and Abu Dhabi. In 2024, the company partnered with Uber to introduce the largest commercial Robotaxi fleet in the Middle East. Looking ahead to 2025, WeRide plans to roll out fully driverless Robotaxi operations in Zurich, Switzerland.Having initially launched its fully unmanned Robotaxi services in Beijing in June 2023, WeRide now aims to further expand its service coverage and fleet size. With the introduction of GXR, the company plans to increase the number of Robotaxi vehicles operating in Beijing to several hundred by 2025, reinforcing its position at the forefront of autonomous mobility.
