Electra Secures 2,200 Pre-Orders for Revolutionary Hybrid-Electric Aircraft
Electra.aero, Inc. (Electra) has received 2,200 pre-orders for its groundbreaking EL9 Ultra Short hybrid-electric aircraft, marking a major milestone in advanced air mobility and aviation. With an order pipeline valued at nearly $9 billion, Electra is shaping the future of regional aviation by making air travel more accessible, sustainable, and efficient.
The EL9 Ultra Short leverages blown lift aerodynamics and hybrid-electric propulsion, allowing it to take off and land in just 150 feet. This capability makes it ideal for operating in areas with limited aviation infrastructure, noise restrictions, or rugged terrain. It also introduces new logistics capabilities for both commercial and military applications, including cargo transport and tactical mobility for warfighters.
With a nine-passenger capacity, 3,000-pound payload, and a 1,100-nautical-mile range, the EL9 eliminates the need for ground charging infrastructure thanks to in-flight battery recharging. Its ability to operate from grass fields, parking lots, and repurposed heliports unlocks new economic and travel opportunities.
"Electra's Ultra Short is the unlock for a new era of air travel – what we call Direct Aviation – that is as transformative as it's practical," said Marc Allen, CEO of Electra. "Hybrid-electric propulsion enables us to achieve what jet fuel alone can't do; we've created a fixed-wing airplane that delivers the access of a helicopter with 100 times less noise, 70 percent lower cost, improved safety, and dramatically reduced emissions. The response from the global aviation industry has been tremendous. Our customers see the EL9 aircraft as a true game-changer, and they're using its ultra-short takeoff capabilities to open the door to new routes in areas with space and noise constraints. Together, we're enabling a fundamental leap forward in advanced air mobility."
Electra’s latest customers span across the U.S., Europe, Africa, and Asia, including Caverton Helicopters (Nigeria), Copenhagen Helicopter (Denmark), 5 Star Helicopter Tours (U.S.), Global Vectra Helicorp (India), and Helicidade Heilporto (Brazil). These companies join Bristow Group, Electra’s operational launch partner, as well as regional aviation platforms like Blade India, Flapper (Latin America), and JSX (U.S.) in incorporating the EL9 into their fleets.
By combining low noise, cost efficiency, and lower emissions, Electra’s Ultra Short aircraft is poised to transform regional mobility, making air travel more convenient and sustainable than ever before.
